Eating Asheville

While munching our way through Asheville looking for all things Asian inspired for a magazine article, we were lucky enough to be staying right across the street from what certainly must be one of Asheville's finest eateries -- Table. We had a great meal and a great time with the staff too.

Marysia Swim

We just wrapped up shooting the look book for Marysia Swim. This has got to be some of the sweetest swim wear ever -- All shot on Sullivans Island, SC -- couldn't have been better....

Buffalo Roam

We're in Virginia photographing the comeback of the Buffalo. They're pretty hardy animals that can get up and go with the agility of a horse even though they top out at around 2500 lbs. Lots of rain here....

Salty

Capt. Tommy Edwards (no relation - that we know of) and crew let me tag along to document a day in the life of a commercial shrimper. Started at 3:30am - I was a few minutes late.... The dark; the noise; the quiet; the boredom; the anticipation; the smell; the heat; the brightness....

Muy Rico

We were in Puerto Rico about a month ago and delivered our assignment shortly after return -- we're finally getting around to processing some of the "other" imagery shot there. Never been before -- what a beautiful place....

just helping

That's my friend Carter "helping" his grandfather. Notice the bronson in his hand... the look of joy and mirth. Poppa did not have the same look on his face the next am when the stump was still smoldering and the fire pit was busted on one side. He did have a bronson in his hand tho....

The Lobsterman

I grew up on the water swimming, fishing, building, and crawling around on boats -- my first real job (at 13yrs.) was unloading boats and cleaning fish. I guess all that got in my blood and I've come to be honored to accept any invitation to get out on the water -- especially with working watermen. Recently I was lucky enough to be invited along to pull some traps with Phil Tuttle, a lobsterman from Harpswell, Me. He works a total of 100 traps with his good friend Rad (50 apiece). We got a few bugs -- shared some suds -- and ate some of the sweetest steamers I've ever had.

Damariscotta Oysters

We're up in Maine for the Nearly-No-Labor Day weekend and managed to get in a little food recon. at Three Tides in Belfast. Never had a Maine oyster before... and probably not too many people have since they're sort of a new menu thing up this way. Briney, fat, and a medium texture that tastes just like low tide....

Fried Catfish, Tomatoes, Mayo, and Bacon -- and more Bacon

We totally wrecked this masterpiece that Chef Sean Brock of McCrady's whipped up for an article for US Airways Magazine. Best half pound of bacon I've ever packed in.....

Julyan Davis

It seems like we've been hauling off to NC a lot lately and a couple of weeks ago we were in Asheville shooting Julyan Davis -- a great painter of natural, urban, and decaying landscapes. Of course we were shooting for a fall magazine issue with the temps topping out at 101 degrees!!!

We traveled to NC to photograph how they make the good stuff -- real Mexican fare. The fave was the chicken mole, but a close 2nd would be the barbacoa that packed a wallop of flavor and had a rusty color. Solid latino eats in Chapel Hill!
